Umbrella of Hope charitable community-based organization was registered in 2017. It is a nonprofit making organization whose formation and conception emanated from volunteer health care giver students and professionals who has a back ground of community health initiative within Nairobi-Kenya slums where the minority marginalized and disadvantaged groups live in extreme poverty with a lot of short comings on issues concerning health, food, shelter, sanitation, clean water and hygiene which are factors that contribute to communicable diseases and other unhygienic life threatening hazards. Also, there is a huge number of people living with H.I.V/AIDS and other terminal illnesses that cause drastic deaths to many parents and people of productive age group. Out of these deaths, many children are left orphans and also infected with HIV/AIDS from birth. These children are vulnerable to becoming street children where they become child sex workers and drug addicts. Most young girls and boys become victims of sexual violence and in the process, they end up being H.I.V infected and others extremely traumatized. It is in this regard that health professionals, majority still in collages by then joined hands and come up with the initiative of starting the Community Based Organization to address the issues of psychosocial/health concerns to the vulnerable, marginalized, and disadvantaged groups in the slum dwellings and offer them holistic care and support.
The organizations objectives are:
• To improve the living standards of the target groups, socially, psychologically, emotionally, and economically through life skill trainings and Income Generating Activities for life sustainability and independence.
• To offer vocational trainings for needy youths living with HIV and AIDS and drug addiction who can’t cop-up with formal education.
• To provide Food/nutritional support for orphans, vulnerable children and youth living with HIV/AIDS who can’t afford a meal per day, and they are on ARVs and Anti Tuberculosis drugs.
• To provide recreation and a day care center for the needy orphans and vulnerable children of tender age (below ten years of age) where pre-primary education is provided (E.C.D).
