Elroi hope centre is a non-profit charitable Community Based organization founded in 2003 in Nairobi, Kenya. The main objective of EHC is to provide hope and restoration for orphans and vulnerable children, youth and women through establishment of an integrated empowerment program approaches at the local community level. Elroi Hope Centre has been working in partnership with the relevant government department and organizations on thematic themes such as HIV and AIDS, Drug and substance Abuse, Children empowerment and Rights campaigns, youth empowerment, environmental care and clean up, and women empowerment programs.Elroi Hope Centre is registered under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Department in the Republic of Kenya as a Community. It has a board of directors that oversees the policy and management of programs and a Coordinator managing the day-to-day operations of EHC assisted by several social workers.Elroi project beneficiaries are: Orphaned, abandoned children aged 5-17 years that are neglected and destitute; Children involved in Child labour and domestic workers; Parents and guardians of orphaned and abandoned children; Children living with HIV and AIDS; Local Institutions and organizations working with and for destitute and needy children; Vulnerable Women living with HIV and AIDS virus in the community; Youth and young people at Risk.
Elroi’s working strategies for orphans and vulnerable children has been:
- Documentations of case studies information on each beneficiary for care and exit plan strategies.
- Integration of identified cases of needy children with foster care families or guardians.
- Placement of older children for vocational skills training.
- Organize access for ARV’s by children living with HIV and AIDS virus.
- Networking, Lobbying and Advocacy activities.
On sustainability of activities, Elroi has been doing the following
- Making travelling bags, aprons and dustcoats which we sell at a fee
- Sourcing contracts from public and private schools where we facilitate life skills and mentorship for young people.
- Facilitating community members to make briquettes (environmentally friendly charcoal) at a fee. Making and selling large quantities of briquettes.
